Quick answer: each Antinol Joint Care Pro capsule contains one active ingredient: 50mg of PCSO-524, an oil (lipid) extract of New Zealand green-lipped mussel. Antinol states that gives 20mg of omega-3 per capsule, including 10mg of EPA and 5mg of DHA. The rest of the capsule is olive oil, glycerin, beef gelatin and vitamin E. There's no glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, hyaluronic acid or Boswellia. If you want a broader formula, we'd recommend trying MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews instead: a soft chew with all six key joint actives and the main amounts per chew on the label.
Transparency note: this page is written by MedPaw, which makes a competing joint supplement. All Antinol figures come from its official UK product page, checked on 8 October 2026.
What's in Antinol Joint Care Pro
This is the full composition published on Antinol's UK product page, per capsule.
Antinol Joint Care Pro for Dogs: per capsule
| Ingredient | Amount per capsule | What it's there for |
|---|---|---|
| PCSO-524 (green-lipped mussel lipid extract) | 50mg | The only active ingredient |
| Omega-3 (from PCSO-524) | 20mg, including 10mg EPA and 5mg DHA | Part of the 50mg above, not extra |
| Olive oil | Not published | Carrier oil |
| Glycerin (plant-based) | Not published | Softens the capsule shell |
| Gelatin (bovine) | Not published | Capsule shell |
| Vitamin E (D-alpha tocopherol) | Not published | Antioxidant that helps keep the oil fresh |
Analytical constituents, as published: crude protein 29.8%, fat 53.3%, crude ash under 0.1% and crude fibre 0%. Allergens to note: shellfish (the green-lipped mussel) and beef (the gelatin capsule). Antinol says beef-allergic dogs can have the capsule pierced and the oil squeezed onto food.
Antinol also describes PCSO-524 as containing over 90 fatty acids. That's Antinol's own claim, and it doesn't publish amounts for them.
What about Antinol Rapid?
Antinol Rapid (EAB-277) is sold in Australia and Asia, not on Antinol's UK website. Sellers describe it as a blend of two marine lipid concentrates, but the listing we checked didn't publish amounts per capsule (example listing). See our explainer on Antinol Rapid for dogs.
What the evidence says
The biggest recent review of joint supplements for dogs and cats, a 2022 meta-analysis of 72 trials (Barbeau-Grégoire et al., International Journal of Molecular Sciences), found:
- Omega-3: the strongest evidence of any ingredient for easing arthritis pain. Green-lipped mussel trials were grouped with the omega-3 products.
- Glucosamine and chondroitin: didn't relieve arthritis pain in that review.
So Antinol is built on the right family of ingredients. The question is the dose. Two capsules give a 25kg dog 30mg of EPA and DHA a day. In a 2016 trial of 74 arthritic dogs, fish oil was given at 69mg per kg a day, about 1,700mg for a 25kg dog. Antinol's answer is that PCSO-524 works through its wider mix of fatty acids rather than EPA and DHA alone, and a 2015 Thai study of 66 dogs found better lameness and weight-bearing scores on PCSO-524 than on fish oil, though the abstract doesn't say whether it was blinded. The 2022 review didn't analyse PCSO-524 on its own.
Antinol also advises against giving other omega-3 or marine oils at the same time, so if your vet recommends a fish oil, ask which one to keep.
What's missing compared with MedPaw
Antinol vs MedPaw: actives per dose unit
| Active | Antinol (per capsule) | MedPaw (per chew) |
|---|---|---|
| Green-lipped mussel | 50mg PCSO-524 oil extract | 70mg |
| Glucosamine | None | 170mg |
| Chondroitin | None | 70mg |
| MSM | None | 185mg |
| Boswellia serrata | None | 30mg |
| Hyaluronic acid | None | Yes (amount not published) |
| Vitamins and minerals | Vitamin E (amount not published) | Vitamin C 33mg, vitamin E 24 IU, zinc 3mg |
The mussel figures aren't like for like: Antinol uses a concentrated oil extract, while MedPaw's 70mg is green-lipped mussel itself. MedPaw contains mollusc and gluten (brewer's yeast), so it doesn't suit dogs with a shellfish allergy or gluten sensitivity. For more on the two forms of mussel, see Antinol vs green-lipped mussel powder.
Why Antinol customers switch to MedPaw
Antinol vs MedPaw on what's inside and how it's given
| The issue | Antinol | MedPaw |
|---|---|---|
| Range of actives | One: green-lipped mussel oil | All six key joint actives |
| Format | Beef gelatin softgel capsule | Soft chicken and bacon flavour chew, given like a treat |
| If it doesn't suit | 60-day trial on Starter Packs for new customers | 60 days from delivery, for any reason; nothing to send back |
Its most common complaint is owners seeing no difference; read our Antinol reviews and complaints page for the full picture.
Our recommendation: if you've tried Antinol's single-ingredient approach without the results you hoped for, or your dog won't take capsules, try MedPaw's broader formula. Swap rather than stack, give it six to eight weeks, and if you're not happy, email us within 60 days and we'll refund you. Try MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews.
If nothing has worked so far
If your dog is still stiff or sore after a fair trial of any supplement, see your vet. They may suggest pain relief, weight loss or an omega-3 fish oil at a proper dose, which has the strongest evidence for dogs with arthritis.
