Step 1 of 8

Hi, I'm the MedPaw dose helper. Let's work out the daily cost for your dog.

First, roughly how big is your dog?

In this article

Quick answer: most UK dog joint supplements cost between £5 and £45 a month, depending mainly on your dog's weight, the pack size you buy, and whether there's a double-dose "loading" period at the start. For a 25kg dog, budget supermarket tablets can cost around £5 a month, mainstream brands like YuMOVE and Seraquin around £16 to £37, and premium chews and capsules £28 to £45. The tub price on the shelf tells you very little until you work out how many tablets or chews your dog needs a day.

Transparency note: MedPaw makes one of the products below, and it isn't the cheapest. Prices were checked on manufacturer and retailer sites in October 2026 and change often. Figures are single-purchase prices unless stated, rounded to the nearest penny.

    How we worked it out

For each product we took the best-value single-purchase pack we could find, divided the price by the number of tablets or chews, and multiplied by the maker's maintenance dose for three example dogs (10kg, 25kg and 40kg) over 30 days. Where a dose is given as a range, we show the range. Loading doses are covered separately below, because they can double your first month's cost.

    Monthly cost by dog weight

Approximate cost per 30 days at the maintenance dose (October 2026)

Product (pack used) Format 10kg dog 25kg dog 40kg dog
    Vetzyme High Strength Flexible Joint (90, £15.60) Tablet £2.60 £5.20 £7.80
    Beaphar Joint Tablets (60, £12.12) Tablet £6.06 £6.06 to £12.12 £6.06 to £12.12
    YuMOVE Joint Support Adult (300, £90) Tablet £9.00 £18.00 £27.00
    YuMOVE Joint Support Adult (30, £18.57) Tablet £18.57 £37.14 £55.71
Pooch & Mutt Joint Supplement (small or large tablets) Tablet £9.00 £19.62 £31.40
    Seraquin 2g (60, £21.53) Chewable tablet £10.77 £16.15 £16.15 to £21.53
    Nutraquin (120, £61.99) Sprinkle capsule £7.75 to £15.50 £15.50 £23.25
Synoquin (medium or large, 120) Chewable tablet £16.25 £16.25 £18.75

Movoflex (30, sized by weight) Soft chew £24.99 £27.99 £33.99
    MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews (60, £29.95) Soft chew £29.95 £29.95 to £44.93 £29.95 to £44.93
    Flexadin Advanced (30, £32.99) Soft chew £32.99 £32.99 £32.99
    Antinol Joint Care Pro (60, £42.99) Capsule £21.50 £42.99 £42.99
    Antinol Joint Care Pro (720, £345.99) Capsule £14.42 £28.83 £28.83

    Notes on the figures:

    • Vetzyme was on sale for less when we checked; we used the usual price. Its dose bands start at 5kg.
    • Beaphar doesn't publish a maintenance dose above 40kg, and its ingredient amounts per tablet aren't published.
    • Synoquin prices come from Pets at Home via a price tracker; online vet pharmacies were more expensive.
    • Nutraquin's 10kg figure depends on which weight band your dog falls into.
    • Flexadin Advanced drops to about £30 a month in the 60-chew pack.
    • Pooch & Mutt uses the small-dog tablets for the 10kg figure and the large-dog tablets for 25kg and 40kg.
    • YuMOVE also offers 20% off on subscription, which brings the 300-pack figures down to about £7.20, £14.40 and £21.60.

    Don't forget the loading dose

Several brands tell you to give double for the first few weeks. That can make month one much more expensive than the shelf price suggests.

    Loading phases

Product Loading phase Cost of the loading phase for a 25kg dog (approx.)
YuMOVE Double for the first month £36 for the first month (300 pack), double the usual £18
Seraquin Double for 4 to 6 weeks £45 for the 6-week loading period
Synoquin 2 to 4 tablets a day for 6 weeks £68 for the 6-week loading period
Nutraquin Double for 6 weeks £43 for the 6-week loading period
Beaphar Higher dose for 4 to 6 weeks £25 for the 6-week loading period
Antinol Double for about 2 weeks £29 to £43 for the first 2 weeks, depending on pack size
MedPaw Double for the first three weeks £42 to £63 for the 3-week loading period
Movoflex, Flexadin, Cortaflex chews, Pooch & Mutt, Vetzyme None None

Cheap vs expensive: what's the difference?

Price per month is only half the picture. The other half is what you get for it:

    • Published amounts. Several of the cheapest products don't state how much of each ingredient is in a tablet, so you can't compare like for like.
    • Format. Soft chews cost more to make than tablets. If your dog takes tablets, you'll usually get more active ingredient per pound.
    • Ingredients. Glucosamine is cheap. Green-lipped mussel oil, UC-II collagen and eggshell membrane cost more, which pushes up the price of products like Antinol, Flexadin and Movoflex.
    • Evidence. Paying more doesn't buy better evidence. A 2022 review of 72 trials found the strongest support for omega-3 fish oil, and plain salmon oil at a useful dose costs roughly £5 to £12 a month for a 25kg dog. See the best fish oil for dogs' joints.

Our guide to the difference between a £15 and a £40 joint supplement goes into more detail.

    Six ways to spend less

    1. Buy the biggest pack you'll use before it expires. YuMOVE's 300 pack costs half as much per tablet as its 30 pack. See is a six-month supply worth buying up front?
    2. Subscribe if the brand discounts it, but check you can pause or cancel easily.
    3. Compare by cost per day for your dog, not price per tub.
    4. Get your dog's weight right. A slimmer dog needs a lower dose band and has less strain on its joints.
    5. Be wary of "free trials" that roll into expensive subscriptions; see are free trials worth taking?
    6. Don't stack products that overlap. Two glucosamine supplements cost twice as much for little extra benefit. A fish oil is usually a better add-on.

    Is it worth the money?

For a dog with diagnosed arthritis, the best value usually comes from a vet-led plan: pain relief where needed, weight control, an omega-3 at a proper dose, and a joint supplement if you want to add one. For active or ageing dogs, a joint supplement is a modest monthly cost compared with treating joint problems later, though the evidence for prevention is limited. How much does a dog joint supplement cost per month in the UK?

Typically £5 to £45 a month. For a 25kg dog, budget tablets cost around £5 to £12, mainstream brands like YuMOVE and Seraquin around £16 to £37 depending on pack size, and soft chews and capsules around £26 to £45.

What is the cheapest joint supplement for dogs in the UK?

Supermarket and pharmacy tablets such as Vetzyme High Strength and Beaphar Joint Tablets cost the least per month. Bear in mind that Beaphar doesn't publish amounts per tablet, so it's harder to compare what you're getting.

How much does YuMOVE cost per month?

For a 25kg dog on two tablets a day, about £18 a month using the 300-tablet pack, £14.40 on subscription, or £37 if you buy 30-tablet packs. The first month costs double because of the loading dose.

Why do joint chews cost more than tablets?

Soft chews are more expensive to make and usually contain less active ingredient per pound. You're paying for palatability. If your dog takes tablets happily, tablets are usually better value.

Is a more expensive joint supplement better?

Not necessarily. Some premium products use costlier ingredients like green-lipped mussel oil or UC-II collagen, but the strongest evidence is for omega-3 fish oil, which is inexpensive. Compare published amounts and your dog's needs rather than price.
