Hi, I'm the MedPaw dose helper. Let's work out where your dog should be on the YuMOVE timeline.

First, roughly how big is your dog?

In this article

You have bought a tub of YuMOVE, your dog is on it every day, and now you are watching for signs that it is doing something. It is a fair question to ask: how long should you actually wait before you expect to see a difference?

This guide is specifically about YuMOVE's own timeline. We look at what YuMOVE itself promises, how its doubled starting period works, what owners tend to notice around 2, 6 and 12 weeks, and what to do if nothing has changed by the time its guarantee window closes.

If you want the general picture for any joint supplement, our guide to how long joint supplements take to work covers that. Here we stay focused on YuMOVE.

YuMOVE vs MedPaw: How the Formulas Compare

How quickly any supplement seems to work depends partly on what is in it and partly on whether your dog will take it every single day. So before we get into weeks and milestones, here is how YuMOVE Joint Support PLUS Max lines up against MedPaw and four other well-known UK joint supplements.

MedPaw is our own product. Every value in the table is taken from each brand's published composition, not from our own interpretation.

MedPaw is the only one of the six with all six key joint actives

✓ = included, ✗ = not listed. Key joint actives: glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, green-lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid and Boswellia. Taken from each manufacturer's published information, September 2026.

The row that matters most for timing is the last one. YuMOVE asks you to judge it within 6 weeks, while MedPaw gives you 60 days, which sits much closer to the 2 to 3 months that joint supplements generally need to show their full effect. MedPaw also lists all six key joint actives, including MSM and Boswellia serrata, which YuMOVE PLUS Max does not list.

Format plays a part too. A soft chew that most dogs treat as a reward is far easier to give every day than a tablet that has to be hidden in food, and missed days are one of the most common reasons any supplement seems slow to work.

What YuMOVE Itself Says About Timing

YuMOVE is unusually specific about timing compared with many brands. Its headline promise is a more active dog "in just 6 weeks", backed by a 6 week money-back guarantee on products bought from its own website.

The brand also points to its own customer research from April 2024, a survey of around 800 owners. On its claims page, YuMOVE reports that 86% of owners surveyed said they saw a noticeable difference after starting YuMOVE, and that roughly 1 in 3 reported seeing results within 3 weeks or less. It is worth keeping in mind that this is a self-reported owner survey run by the brand, not a controlled clinical trial, so treat it as a guide to what some owners experience rather than a prediction for your dog.

In short, YuMOVE's own framing is: some dogs within 3 weeks, most owners within 6 weeks, and continued daily use after that to keep the benefit going.

    The Doubled Starting Period

YuMOVE recommends giving new users double the usual daily amount for the first month. Its 6 week challenge page describes this as doubling for the first 4 to 6 weeks. The idea is to build up the active ingredients more quickly before dropping to the standard maintenance amount shown on the pack for your dog's weight.

Two points often catch owners out:

    • A tub runs out faster than you expect. During the doubled period you are using tablets at twice the normal rate, so plan your reorder so you don't have a gap at week 3 or 4.
    • Switching between YuMOVE products doesn't need a second doubled period. YuMOVE says the doubling applies to new users, not to dogs moving from one YuMOVE joint product to another.

For exact tablet numbers by weight, see our YuMOVE dosage guide.

Why It Takes Weeks, Not Days

YuMOVE Joint Support PLUS Max is built around glucosamine, green-lipped mussel and hyaluronic acid, with omega-3 from fish oil plus vitamins C and E and manganese. None of these are painkillers. They are nutritional ingredients that support normal joint structure and lubrication, so any benefit builds gradually, which is why YuMOVE uses a doubled start and a 6 week window.

    A Realistic YuMOVE Timeline

Every dog is different, but this combines the brand's own guidance with what owners typically report.

What to expect on YuMOVE over the first 12 weeks

    Weeks 1 to 2

    Doubled start, little to see

Your dog is on the doubled amount. Most owners see no obvious change yet. Focus on giving it every day and start a short diary.

    Weeks 3 to 6

    YuMOVE's promise window

YuMOVE reports some owners notice changes within 3 weeks. Around weeks 4 to 6 you drop to the normal amount. Week 6 is when its guarantee asks you to decide.

    Weeks 8 to 12

    The fuller picture

Older dogs and those with longstanding stiffness often take this long to show a clear difference. This is the fairest point to judge any joint supplement.

    At 2 Weeks

Expect very little. Any change now is hard to separate from a good week or warmer weather. The most useful thing you can do is record a baseline: how your dog gets up from bed, how far they walk comfortably, and whether they use the stairs or the sofa.

    At 6 Weeks

This is the point YuMOVE asks you to make a call. If your dog responds, owners commonly describe small, practical changes: getting up from lying down with less effort, keeping pace on a familiar walk, or jumping into the car without hesitating. If you see these, keep going. If you see nothing at all, you have a choice to make, which we cover below.

    At 12 Weeks

By three months you have a reliable picture. Many vets and supplement makers, ourselves included, suggest 2 to 3 months of consistent daily use as the fair test for a joint supplement. A dog that has improved should be holding that improvement on the normal maintenance amount. A dog with no change at all by now is unlikely to suddenly respond to more of the same product.

How to Tell Whether YuMOVE Is Working

Gradual changes are easy to miss when you see your dog every day. Repeat these checks at the start, at 6 weeks and at 12 weeks.

A simple YuMOVE progress check to repeat at weeks 0, 6 and 12

What to check How to measure it Sign of progress
Getting up Time from waking to standing after a nap Fewer attempts, less of a stretch before moving
Walk length Distance or minutes before your dog slows down Walks further or keeps pace for longer
Stairs and jumps Whether they use stairs, the car or the sofa unaided Less hesitation, fewer requests for a lift
After exercise Stiffness the evening after a longer walk Recovers more quickly, less stiff next morning
Video A 20 second clip of your dog walking towards you A smoother, more even gait compared with week 0

For guidance only, not a diagnosis.

The short video is the most useful of these. Comparing week 0 with week 12 side by side often reveals changes you would never spot day to day.

Things That Can Make YuMOVE Seem Slower

Before blaming the product, check the basics. Tablets that get spat out or left in the bowl add up quickly, so check the bowl after meals if your dog is fussy. If your dog has gained weight, their daily amount may need to go up, and extra weight also puts more load on the joints than any supplement can offset. Finally, irregular exercise and cold, damp weather can both cause stiffness that hides a gradual improvement.

What to Do If Nothing Changes

If you have reached 6 weeks with no visible difference, you have three sensible options.

Use the guarantee if you bought direct. YuMOVE's money-back guarantee applies to products bought from its own website. Its terms say you try the product for 6 weeks (42 days) from delivery, then have 30 days after that to claim. You need to call YuMOVE to talk it through and return the unused product or empty containers. Purchases from other retailers may not be covered, so check where you bought it.

Give it longer if your dog is older or very stiff. Six weeks is a short window for some dogs. If you are seeing a hint of improvement, carrying on to 10 or 12 weeks is reasonable.

Try a different formula. Some dogs simply respond better to a different mix of ingredients. Our guide on what to do when YuMOVE isn't working covers the alternatives in detail, and if you are still deciding whether it is right for your dog at all, see is YuMOVE worth it?. When switching, swap one product for the other rather than giving two joint supplements together.

    When to See Your Vet

A joint supplement supports normal joint function. It is not a treatment, and it should never delay a proper check-up. Book an appointment with your vet if:

    • your dog is limping, or lameness comes on suddenly
    • a joint looks swollen or feels warm, or your dog reacts when it is touched
    • stiffness is getting worse rather than better during the first 6 weeks
    • your dog is reluctant to walk, struggles to get up, or is crying out
    • there is still no change at all after 10 to 12 weeks of consistent use
    • your dog is on other medication and you want to check that adding a supplement is suitable

Your vet can work out what is behind the stiffness and what should sit alongside a supplement.

How long does YuMOVE take to work?

YuMOVE says owners should see a more active dog within 6 weeks, and its own April 2024 owner survey reports that about 1 in 3 owners noticed a difference within 3 weeks or less. In practice, older dogs or those with longstanding stiffness may need 8 to 12 weeks of consistent daily use before you can judge it fairly.

How long should I give my dog double YuMOVE for?

YuMOVE recommends doubling the usual daily amount for the first month for new users, and its 6 week challenge describes this as the first 4 to 6 weeks. After that, drop to the normal daily amount for your dog's weight as shown on the pack. The doubled start isn't needed if your dog is switching from one YuMOVE joint product to another.

Can I get my money back if YuMOVE doesn't work?

If you bought from YuMOVE's own website, its guarantee lets you try the product for 6 weeks from delivery and then claim within 30 days after that. You need to phone YuMOVE first and return unused product or empty containers. Products bought elsewhere may not be covered, so check the retailer's own returns policy.

Will my dog's stiffness come back if I stop YuMOVE?

Joint supplements support joints only while they are being given, so any benefit you have seen is likely to fade gradually if you stop. If you are thinking of stopping or switching, change one thing at a time and watch your dog closely for a few weeks.

Is there a joint supplement with a longer trial period than YuMOVE?

Yes. MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews Max comes with a 60-day money-back guarantee, which gives you longer to judge it against the 2 to 3 months recommended for optimal results. It is a daily soft chew with glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, green-lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid and Boswellia serrata.
