Hi, I'm the MedPaw dose helper. Let's see how MedPaw compares for your dog.

First, roughly how big is your dog?

Quick answer: the biggest problem with Dasuquin in the UK is that there's very little to judge it on: we found just seven UK reviews in total, six at Viovet and one at PDSA Pet Store, and none on Trustpilot. Beyond that, it's a chewable tablet that often has to be halved, it comes in two strengths by weight, the double-dose loading phase lasts 4 to 6 weeks, the ingredient lists published by Protexin and by retailers don't match, and we couldn't find a money-back guarantee. The UK reviews we found are positive, but seven reviews can't tell you much. If any of that matters to you, we'd recommend trying MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews instead: a soft chew dogs take like a treat, with all six key joint actives and the main amounts per chew on the label, a subscription you can pause or cancel any time, and a 60-day money-back guarantee with nothing to send back.

Transparency note: this page is written by MedPaw, which makes a competing joint supplement. Reviews are quoted word for word with links so you can check them. Ratings, labels and terms were checked on 8 October 2026.

The most common Dasuquin complaints and drawbacks

Dasuquin is made by Nutramax in the US and distributed in the UK by Protexin Veterinary, mainly through vets and online vet pharmacies. We checked Protexin's own product page, Viovet, VetUK, PDSA Pet Store, Animed, Supplement Solutions, zooplus and Trustpilot. The UK reviews we could read are all positive, so rather than invent complaints, the table below sets out the drawbacks we could verify. Amazon UK and Pets at Home block automated access, so we couldn't read reviews there.

Dasuquin drawbacks (checked 8 October 2026)

    Drawback What we found Source
Very few UK reviews Six at Viovet (most from 2018 to 2022), one at PDSA Pet Store, none at VetUK or Supplement Solutions, and no reviews of Protexin on Trustpilot Retailer pages and Trustpilot
Tablets, often halved Half a tablet a day for dogs under 4.5kg, half a tablet at maintenance for 4.5 to 13.5kg, and one and a half for dogs over 50kg Protexin feeding guide
Two strengths to choose from Separate Small/Medium (under 25kg) and Large (over 25kg) tablets Protexin
Long loading phase Double-strength start for 4 to 6 weeks before dropping to half Protexin feeding guide
Ingredient lists don't match Retailers list Boswellia, soy lecithin and soya protein isolate; Protexin's own page lists none of them Protexin, Viovet, PDSA Pet Store
Narrow formula Glucosamine, chondroitin and avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU); no MSM, green-lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid or omega-3 Protexin
No guarantee we could find No money-back guarantee on Protexin's page or any retailer listing we checked Protexin and retailers

"It's not a guarantee but well worth a try"

Dasuquin's UK reviews are few and mostly old. At Viovet, the newest says simply "Very good product & have been using it a long time" (Diane N., July 2026), and the rest date from 2018 to 2022. One owner gave it "alongside Yumove as recommended by my vet" (Anne F., November 2022), so it's hard to say which product made the difference. Another summed it up: "It's not a guarantee but well worth a try" (Sarah S., March 2022). Viovet doesn't show star ratings for individual reviews. PDSA Pet Store has one anonymous five-star review from an owner whose dog loves the taste and who was still hoping it would help.

Most Dasuquin reviews online are American, and the US range is different: Nutramax sells Dasuquin with MSM, soft chews and a broader Dasuquin Advanced formula there. One US owner wrote on Trustpilot: "My hound dog that will almost eat anything refuses to take these meds." (Ken S., 1 star, March 2026, about US Dasuquin Advanced). US reviews don't tell you much about the UK tablet.

    Labels that don't agree

Protexin's own page lists glucosamine from fermentation, chondroitin from animal tissue, hydrolysed poultry protein, dextrose, ASU, magnesium stearate and tea extract, with brewer's yeast in the Large tablet only. Viovet and PDSA Pet Store list Boswellia serrata as an additive, plus soy lecithin, brewer's yeast and soya protein isolate. Neither source gives an amount per tablet for Boswellia or tea extract. If you're checking for allergens, you have to rely on the tub you receive. Read more in Dasuquin ingredients explained.

Buying it and the guarantee catch

Dasuquin is sold through vets and vet pharmacies rather than supermarkets; zooplus doesn't stock it, and Animed's listing says "Prescription required" even though Protexin's page doesn't mention one. We couldn't find a money-back guarantee from Protexin or any retailer, so if it doesn't suit your dog, you're relying on each seller's returns policy. Viovet offers its own Subscribe and Save, but Dasuquin has no subscription of its own.

Why Dasuquin customers switch to MedPaw

MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews differ from Dasuquin on exactly the points above.

Dasuquin vs MedPaw on the things that matter to owners

    The complaint Dasuquin MedPaw
Giving it every day Chewable tablet, often halved Soft chicken and bacon chew, given from your hand like a treat; whole chews at every weight
Knowing what's in it Glucosamine, chondroitin and ASU; Boswellia listed by some retailers but not by Protexin All six key joint actives, with the main amounts per chew on the label: MSM 185mg, glucosamine 170mg, chondroitin 70mg, green-lipped mussel 70mg, Boswellia 30mg, plus hyaluronic acid
Loading phase 4 to 6 weeks at double strength Double for just the first three weeks
Getting your money back No guarantee we could find 60 days from delivery, for any reason; email us and keep the tub
Ordering Through vets and vet pharmacies; two strengths by weight One product for every size; pause, change or cancel your subscription any time

Our recommendation: if you're splitting tablets, want more than glucosamine and chondroitin, or want a guarantee before you commit to months of daily use, switch to MedPaw. Swap rather than stack: stop Dasuquin and start MedPaw the next day. Give it six to eight weeks, and if you're not happy, email us within 60 days and we'll refund you. Try MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews.

    Dasuquin's rating, in context

Dasuquin is rated 4.8 out of 5 from 6 reviews at Viovet and 5 out of 5 from a single review at PDSA Pet Store (checked 8 October 2026). Protexin has no reviews on Trustpilot, and Nutramax's US profile has two. Seven reviews over eight years is too few to tell you how most dogs get on, and one of them was written before the owner could say whether it helped.

To be fair to Dasuquin, the reviews it has are warm, each tablet has more glucosamine and chondroitin than a MedPaw chew, its glucosamine comes from fermentation rather than shellfish, and many UK vets stock it.

If nothing has worked so far

If your dog is still stiff or sore after a fair trial of any supplement, see your vet. They may suggest pain relief, weight loss or an omega-3 fish oil at a proper dose, which has the strongest evidence for dogs with arthritis. Read what you can safely give a dog for joint pain and the best fish oil for dogs' joints.

    Our verdict

Dasuquin is a familiar name at the vet's, but it has almost no UK reviews, a tablet that often needs halving, a long loading phase, labels that don't match from one seller to the next and no guarantee we could find. If you want a chew with all six key joint actives and a 60-day guarantee, MedPaw is the alternative we'd recommend. For more, see our Dasuquin alternatives guide and our Cosequin vs Dasuquin comparison.

What are the most common complaints about Dasuquin?

We found no negative UK reviews, because there are hardly any UK reviews at all. The drawbacks we could verify are the lack of reviews, a tablet that often has to be halved, two strengths by weight, a 4 to 6 week loading phase, ingredient lists that differ between Protexin and retailers, and no money-back guarantee we could find.

    Is Dasuquin any good?

There isn't enough UK review evidence to say. The seven UK reviews we found are positive, but most are years old. It's a glucosamine, chondroitin and ASU tablet sold through vets. If you want a soft chew with all six key joint actives and a 60-day money-back guarantee, MedPaw is the alternative we'd recommend.

Is UK Dasuquin the same as US Dasuquin?

No. The UK tablet from Protexin contains glucosamine, chondroitin and ASU. In the US, Nutramax sells a wider range, including Dasuquin with MSM, soft chews and Dasuquin Advanced with extra ingredients, so US reviews and advice may not apply.

Does Dasuquin have a money-back guarantee?

We couldn't find one on Protexin's page or at any UK retailer we checked, so returns depend on where you buy it. MedPaw has a 60-day money-back guarantee from delivery, for any reason, with nothing to send back.

What's the best alternative to Dasuquin?

If your dog dislikes tablets, you're tired of halving them, or you want MSM, green-lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid and Boswellia alongside glucosamine and chondroitin, we'd recommend MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews. Swap rather than stack, and give it six to eight weeks.

Can I switch from Dasuquin to MedPaw straight away?

Yes. Stop Dasuquin and start MedPaw the next day. There's no need for a gap, and you shouldn't give both. Check with your vet first if your dog takes any medication.
