Step 1 of 8

Hi, I'm the MedPaw dose helper. Sorry YuMOVE hasn't agreed with your dog. Let's see how MedPaw compares.

First, roughly how big is your dog?

In this article

Quick answer: YuMOVE's own FAQ says that, as with any change of diet, introducing it "can sometimes cause mild digestive upset", and that most dogs do well on it. In reviews, the side effect owners report is stomach trouble: diarrhoea, loose stools and sometimes vomiting, often soon after starting. It's rare compared with the size of YuMOVE's review base. The joint tablets contain green-lipped mussel and hoki fish, so they aren't for dogs with a shellfish or fish allergy, and YuMOVE doesn't recommend its products during pregnancy or lactation. If YuMOVE hasn't suited your dog, we'd recommend trying MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews instead: a soft chew with all six key joint actives and a 60-day money-back guarantee if it doesn't suit.

Transparency note: this page is written by MedPaw, which makes a competing joint supplement. YuMOVE's guidance is quoted from its own website with links, and reviews are quoted word for word. Everything was checked on 8 October 2026. This isn't veterinary advice: if your dog is unwell, call your vet.

What YuMOVE itself says about side effects

YuMOVE doesn't print a list of side effects, but its FAQs and the Joint Support for Adult Dogs product page cover the main points.

    YuMOVE's own guidance (checked 8 October 2026)

    Topic What YuMOVE says
Starting YuMOVE "Just like any dietary change, introducing YuMOVE can sometimes cause mild digestive upset." If it happens, stop, let digestion settle, then reintroduce slowly from a very small amount.
Other side effects "Most dogs do really well on YuMOVE." For anything unusual, check with your vet.
Pregnancy and lactation "We don't recommend using YuMOVE products during pregnancy or lactation."
Medication Can be used alongside most prescription medicines, but "We haven't extensively tested our supplements with all medications, so we do recommend checking with your vet first."
Existing conditions If your dog has an existing condition or takes other medication, speak to your vet before starting.
Dog ate a whole pack "Mild digestive upset is to be expected and isn't a cause for concern." Call your vet if it was Calming Care or there are symptoms beyond digestive upset.
Loading phase Double the daily amount for the first month

That last point is worth knowing. YuMOVE's starting routine is twice the usual daily amount for a month, and some of the owner reports below describe problems from the very first dose or day. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, ask your vet whether to build up more gradually, as YuMOVE itself suggests when reintroducing it after an upset.

    What owners actually report

We searched YuMOVE's Trustpilot page for side effects. With 86,918 reviews, reports of stomach upset are a small fraction, and in the 300 or so recent reviews we read for our YuMOVE reviews page, they were rare. But they do come up:

    • "my dog had constant diarrhoea up until I stopped giving him the tablet" (Graham W., 3 stars, November 2025, about YuMOVE Joint Care Max)
    • "from the first tablet she experienced diarrhoea, waking me up 2-3 times a night." (Heather M., 2 stars, July 2025, about YuMOVE PLUS tablets)
    • "after the first day he got severe diarrhoea and made him really ill" (Penny, 1 star, August 2026)
    • "Made my dog vomit and have runny stools" (Sarah F., 1 star, September 2025)

Side effects in YuMOVE reviews (our reading, October 2026)

    Reported effect How often Notes
Diarrhoea or loose stools Rare, but the most reported Some from the first dose or first day; one owner said it lasted until the tablets were stopped
Vomiting Rare A handful of reports over several years
Refusing food or tablets Occasional "he refuses to eat his food if the tablets are in there." (Rachael, 2 stars, zooplus, March 2024)
Itching or allergy signs None found We didn't find reports in the reviews we searched

To be fair to YuMOVE, many owners report no problems at all, and some reviewers used YuMOVE's digestive products to settle a dog's stomach. Any supplement can upset some dogs' stomachs, including ours.

    Allergens in YuMOVE joint tablets

The published composition of YuMOVE Joint Support for Adult Dogs is: glucosamine from fermentation (28.4%), dicalcium phosphate, green-lipped mussel powder (11.9%), hoki fish meal (5.1%), magnesium stearate, hyaluronic acid (0.15%) and refined sunflower oil. The PLUS tablets list the same kinds of ingredients plus N-acetyl-D-glucosamine.

    • Shellfish (mollusc): yes, green-lipped mussel. Not suitable for a dog with a shellfish allergy.
    • Fish: yes, hoki fish meal.
    • Glucosamine source: fermentation, not shellfish.
    • Chicken, beef, pork, wheat or gluten: none listed in the current Joint Support adult tablet. Older Joint Care packs still on some shelves list pork liver powder, so check the label you have.

The product page doesn't carry a separate allergen warning, so read the composition yourself if your dog has a food allergy, and check YuMOVE's other formats (such as the Daily Bites) separately, as they have their own recipes.

When to stop and call your vet

    • Diarrhoea or vomiting that lasts more than a day, or keeps coming back when you restart
    • Blood in stools or vomit, or your dog is lethargic or off their food
    • Facial swelling, hives, sudden itching or any difficulty breathing (call straight away)
    • Your dog has eaten a whole pack and shows anything beyond a mild upset stomach
    • Your dog is pregnant, nursing, on medication or has an existing condition

For general guidance across all brands, see our guide to joint supplement side effects in dogs.

Why YuMOVE customers switch to MedPaw

If YuMOVE didn't agree with your dog, or your dog fought you over the tablets, here's how MedPaw differs.

YuMOVE vs MedPaw for owners who've had problems

    The issue YuMOVE MedPaw
Format Tablet, often hidden in food Soft chicken and bacon flavour chew, given like a treat
Loading phase Double for the first month Double for the first three weeks
What's in it Glucosamine, green-lipped mussel and hoki fish, hyaluronic acid; no separately listed chondroitin, MSM or Boswellia All six key joint actives, with the main amounts per chew on the label
Allergens to note Mollusc (green-lipped mussel), fish (hoki) Mollusc (green-lipped mussel), gluten (brewer's yeast)
If it doesn't suit 6 weeks of use first; claim by phone; return unused product and empty containers 60 days from delivery, for any reason; email us; nothing to send back

To be clear about allergens: MedPaw also contains green-lipped mussel, so it isn't suitable for a dog with a shellfish allergy, and it contains gluten from brewer's yeast.

Our recommendation: if your dog's stomach has settled and your vet is happy, try MedPaw. It's a soft chew most dogs take straight from your hand, it has all six key joint actives (glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, green-lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid and Boswellia), and if it doesn't suit your dog for any reason, email us within 60 days of delivery for a refund. Try MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews.

If nothing has worked so far

If your dog is still stiff or sore after a fair trial of any supplement, see your vet. They may suggest pain relief, weight loss or an omega-3 fish oil at a proper dose, which has the strongest evidence for dogs with arthritis. Read what you can safely give a dog for joint pain and the best fish oil for dogs' joints. For what's in YuMOVE in more detail, see YuMOVE's ingredients explained.

    Does YuMOVE have side effects?

YuMOVE says introducing it can sometimes cause mild digestive upset, as with any change of diet, and that most dogs do well on it. The side effects owners report in reviews are mainly diarrhoea, loose stools and occasionally vomiting, and they're rare.

    Can YuMOVE cause diarrhoea?

Some owners report diarrhoea after starting YuMOVE, sometimes from the very first dose. YuMOVE's advice is to stop, let your dog's digestion settle, then reintroduce it slowly from a very small amount. If it lasts more than a day or keeps coming back, call your vet.

Is YuMOVE suitable for dogs with a shellfish or fish allergy?

No. YuMOVE joint tablets contain green-lipped mussel and hoki fish meal. Its glucosamine comes from fermentation, but the mussel and fish are still allergens to avoid. MedPaw also contains green-lipped mussel, so it isn't suitable for shellfish allergies either.

Can pregnant or nursing dogs have YuMOVE?

YuMOVE says it doesn't recommend its products during pregnancy or lactation. Ask your vet before giving any joint supplement to a pregnant or nursing dog.

Can I give YuMOVE with my dog's medication?

YuMOVE says its supplements can be used alongside most prescription medicines, but they haven't been tested with all of them, so check with your vet first.

Can I switch from YuMOVE to MedPaw straight away?

If YuMOVE upset your dog's stomach, wait until it has fully settled, then start MedPaw. Otherwise, stop YuMOVE and start MedPaw the next day. Don't give both, and check with your vet first if your dog takes medication.
