Quick answer: both are soft chews, but they're very different supplements. Pedigree Multivitamins Joint Care has two joint actives, glucosamine and green-lipped mussel, given as percentages, plus a spread of vitamins. MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews have all six key joint actives (glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, green-lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid and Boswellia) with the main amounts per chew on the label, and a 60-day money-back guarantee. Pedigree was also out of stock at Tesco when we checked. For most dogs, we'd recommend MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews, especially if you want more than a basic formula.
Transparency note: this page is written by MedPaw, which makes a competing joint supplement. Pedigree's details come from its pack information as published by Tesco and Jollyes, because Pedigree's own website blocked our access. We've said clearly where Pedigree comes out ahead. Everything was checked on 8 October 2026.

Where Pedigree falls short
Pedigree's joint chews are well rated where reviews exist, and dogs tend to like them. Their weak points are about what's inside and whether you can get hold of them.
A basic formula
Pedigree has two of the six key joint actives: glucosamine and green-lipped mussel. There's no chondroitin, MSM, hyaluronic acid or Boswellia. The rest of the chew is vegetable derivatives, cereals, seeds, chicken liver and a multivitamin mix, as the name suggests. MedPaw has all six key joint actives in every chew.
Percentages, not amounts
Pedigree lists glucosamine at 2.2% and green-lipped mussel at 2.1% of the chew, not in milligrams. You have to do the maths yourself, and that only works if every chew weighs the same. MedPaw puts the main amounts per chew on the label: MSM 185mg, glucosamine 170mg, chondroitin 70mg, green-lipped mussel 70mg and Boswellia 30mg.
Hard to find
On 8 October 2026, Tesco listed it as out of stock and trolley.co.uk showed it out of stock at every store it tracks. A joint supplement only helps if you can give it every day. Read more in our Pedigree Multivitamins Joint reviews.
No money-back guarantee we could find
Pedigree is sold through supermarkets and pet shops, so if it doesn't suit your dog, you're relying on each shop's returns policy. MedPaw gives you 60 days from delivery to judge it, for any reason, and you don't need to send anything back.
Why Pedigree customers switch to MedPaw
Pedigree vs MedPaw on the issues that matter day to day
| The issue | Pedigree | MedPaw |
|---|---|---|
| Breadth of formula | Glucosamine and green-lipped mussel | All six key joint actives, plus vitamins C and E and zinc |
| Knowing what's in each chew | Percentages only | The main amounts per chew on the label |
| Getting hold of it | Out of stock at Tesco when we checked | Order direct, or subscribe and pause, change or cancel any time |
| Trying it without risk | No guarantee we could find | 60-day money-back guarantee, nothing to send back |
Our recommendation: if you want more than glucosamine and green-lipped mussel, want to know what's in each chew without doing the maths, or have struggled to find Pedigree in stock, choose MedPaw. Give it six to eight weeks, and if you're not happy, email bark@medpaw.co.uk within 60 days of delivery for a refund. Try MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews.
When Pedigree might suit your dog instead
To be fair to Pedigree, it can be the better choice in some cases:
- You want more green-lipped mussel per day. At 25kg, three Pedigree chews give roughly 375mg green-lipped mussel and 390mg glucosamine (our estimate from the percentages), against 140 to 210mg mussel and 340 to 510mg glucosamine from 2 to 3 MedPaw chews.
- You want a general multivitamin chew. Pedigree adds a range of B vitamins that MedPaw doesn't list.
- Your dog is already on it, doing well, and you can find it. If it's working, there's no need to change.
Neither suits a dog with a shellfish allergy: both contain green-lipped mussel, and Pedigree's list also names crustaceans.
Switching from Pedigree to MedPaw
Swap rather than stack. Stop Pedigree and start MedPaw the next day, with no gap. Don't give both: they share glucosamine and green-lipped mussel. Follow the feeding guide on the tub, doubling the usual number of chews for the first three weeks. If your dog takes any medication, check with your vet first.
If nothing has worked so far
If your dog is still stiff or sore after a fair trial of any supplement, see your vet. They may suggest pain relief, weight loss or an omega-3 fish oil at a proper dose, which has the strongest evidence for dogs with arthritis. Read what you can safely give a dog for joint pain and the best fish oil for dogs' joints.

Is MedPaw better than Pedigree Multivitamins Joint?
For most dogs, we think so. MedPaw has all six key joint actives with the main amounts per chew on the label, and a 60-day money-back guarantee. Pedigree has glucosamine and green-lipped mussel only, given as percentages, and no guarantee we could find.
What's the main difference between MedPaw and Pedigree joint chews?
The formula. Both are soft chews, but Pedigree has two joint actives plus vitamins, while MedPaw has glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, green-lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid and Boswellia, plus vitamins C and E and zinc.
Does Pedigree Multivitamins Joint contain chondroitin?
No. Chondroitin isn't listed, and neither are MSM, hyaluronic acid or Boswellia. MedPaw contains all four.
Can I give MedPaw and Pedigree together?
We don't recommend it. Both contain glucosamine and green-lipped mussel, so swap rather than stack. Stop Pedigree and start MedPaw the next day.
Is either suitable for a dog with a shellfish allergy?
No. Both contain green-lipped mussel, and Pedigree also lists crustaceans. MedPaw also contains gluten from brewer's yeast. Speak to your vet about which supplement to use if your dog has a shellfish allergy.
Can I switch from Pedigree to MedPaw straight away?
Yes. Stop Pedigree and start MedPaw the next day. There's no need for a gap, and you shouldn't give both. Check with your vet first if your dog takes any medication.
