Quick answer: Pedigree Multivitamins Joint Care chews list derivatives of vegetable origin (including glucosamine 2.2%), cereals, vegetable protein extracts, seeds, molluscs and crustaceans (including green-lipped mussel 2.1%), minerals, meat and animal derivatives (including dried chicken liver) and vegetables, plus B vitamins, vitamins C and E, manganese and zinc. That's two of the six key joint actives, given as percentages rather than amounts per chew: roughly 130mg glucosamine and 125mg green-lipped mussel per chew by our estimate. There's no chondroitin, MSM, hyaluronic acid or Boswellia. If you want a fuller formula, we'd recommend MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews instead: all six key joint actives, with the main amounts per chew on the label.
Transparency note: this page is written by MedPaw, which makes a competing joint supplement. Pedigree's ingredients come from its pack information as published by Tesco and Jollyes, because Pedigree's own website blocked our access. Everything was checked on 8 October 2026.

Full composition and additives
The composition, in order: derivatives of vegetable origin (including glucosamine 2.2%), cereals, vegetable protein extracts, seeds, molluscs and crustaceans (including green-lipped mussel 2.1%), minerals, meat and animal derivatives (including dried chicken liver 1.3%, equivalent to 6% chicken liver), and vegetables. These are category names, so the pack doesn't say which cereals or seeds are used. Interestingly, the glucosamine is listed under derivatives of vegetable origin rather than shellfish.
Additives: vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12, C and E, manganese (manganous sulphate, monohydrate) and zinc (zinc sulphate, in two forms). Tesco's listing gives figures for each, but doesn't make clear whether they're per kg, so we haven't converted them per chew. The pack says it contains no artificial colours or flavours.
Analytical constituents: protein 21%, fat 3%, inorganic matter 5%, crude fibre 1.1% and moisture 24%. The feeding guide is one to four chews a day by weight, with the main meal reduced to allow for them. The bag should be used within a month of opening.
Allergens and ingredients to check
We didn't find a separate allergen statement. The chews contain molluscs and crustaceans (including green-lipped mussel), cereals, seeds and chicken liver. They aren't suitable for dogs with a shellfish allergy, and if your dog reacts to particular grains, the pack doesn't name which cereals are used. Pedigree says the chews are "Not suitable for dogs under 4 kg or puppies under the age of 9 months", and to check with your vet first if your dog is on a special joint-health diet.
What the evidence says about each active
A 2022 meta-analysis of 72 trials by Barbeau-Grégoire et al. (International Journal of Molecular Sciences) looked at supplements for arthritis pain in dogs and cats:
- Omega-3 (including green-lipped mussel): the strongest evidence of any ingredient for easing arthritis pain. Mussel products were grouped with the omega-3 products. This is the better-supported of Pedigree's two actives, though Pedigree doesn't state an omega-3 content.
- Glucosamine: glucosamine and chondroitin products showed "a very marked non-effect" on pain. That applies to every product that relies on them, MedPaw's glucosamine and chondroitin included. They're widely used to support cartilage, but don't expect pain relief from them.
- Vitamins: the review drew no firm conclusion on vitamins for joint pain.
- MSM, Boswellia and hyaluronic acid: not enough evidence on their own to decide; Pedigree has none of them.
Jollyes' listing describes the chews as "Scientifically proven to support healthy joints", but doesn't say which study that refers to, and we couldn't find a published study of this chew.
What's missing compared with MedPaw
Pedigree has more green-lipped mussel per chew than MedPaw by our estimate (about 125mg against 70mg), and adds a range of B vitamins. But MedPaw has four joint actives Pedigree doesn't: chondroitin, MSM, hyaluronic acid and Boswellia, and gives the main amounts per chew in milligrams. Read our full MedPaw vs Pedigree comparison.
Why Pedigree customers switch to MedPaw
Pedigree vs MedPaw: what's in each chew
| The issue | Pedigree (per chew) | MedPaw (per chew) |
|---|---|---|
| Key joint actives | 2 of 6: glucosamine and green-lipped mussel | All 6: MSM 185mg, glucosamine 170mg, chondroitin 70mg, green-lipped mussel 70mg, Boswellia 30mg, plus hyaluronic acid |
| How amounts are shown | Percentages only | The main amounts per chew in milligrams |
| Chondroitin, MSM, hyaluronic acid, Boswellia | None | All four |
| Allergens | Molluscs and crustaceans, cereals, seeds, chicken liver | Contains mollusc and gluten (brewer's yeast) |
| If it doesn't suit | No money-back guarantee we could find | 60-day money-back guarantee, nothing to send back |
Our recommendation: if you've read Pedigree's label and want more than glucosamine and green-lipped mussel, with the main amounts spelled out, choose MedPaw, unless your dog has a shellfish or gluten allergy. Swap rather than stack, give it six to eight weeks, and if you're not happy, email bark@medpaw.co.uk within 60 days of delivery for a refund. Try MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews.
If nothing has worked so far
If your dog is still stiff or sore after a fair trial of any supplement, see your vet. They may suggest pain relief, weight loss or an omega-3 fish oil at a proper dose, which has the strongest evidence for dogs with arthritis. What is in Pedigree Multivitamins Joint Care?
Derivatives of vegetable origin (including glucosamine 2.2%), cereals, vegetable protein extracts, seeds, molluscs and crustaceans (including green-lipped mussel 2.1%), minerals, meat and animal derivatives (including dried chicken liver) and vegetables, with B vitamins, vitamins C and E, manganese and zinc added.
How much glucosamine is in a Pedigree joint chew?
Pedigree gives it as 2.2% of the chew. With 30 chews in a 180g bag, that's about 130mg per chew if they weigh the same. MedPaw has 170mg glucosamine per chew.
Does Pedigree Multivitamins Joint contain chondroitin or MSM?
No. Neither is listed, and nor are hyaluronic acid or Boswellia. MedPaw contains all four, alongside glucosamine and green-lipped mussel.
Does Pedigree Multivitamins Joint contain shellfish?
Yes. The ingredient list includes molluscs and crustaceans, including green-lipped mussel, so it isn't suitable for a dog with a shellfish allergy. MedPaw also contains green-lipped mussel.
Is Pedigree Multivitamins Joint a supplement or a treat?
Pedigree sells it as a joint supplement chew, and Tesco lists it under dog treats. It has a daily feeding guide by weight, but gives its two joint actives only as percentages, so it's hard to compare with supplements that list amounts per chew.
Can I switch from Pedigree to MedPaw straight away?
Yes. Stop Pedigree and start MedPaw the next day. There's no need for a gap, and you shouldn't give both. Check with your vet first if your dog takes any medication.
