Hi, I'm the MedPaw dose helper. Let's see how MedPaw compares for your dog.

First, roughly how big is your dog?

Quick answer: Superdog Joints & Bones by Vitabiotics is a beef-flavoured chewable tablet with glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, a little green-lipped mussel and a long list of vitamins and minerals. But it doesn't publish how much of each active is in a tablet, it has no hyaluronic acid or Boswellia, it has almost no reviews, and it has disappeared from Vitabiotics' own website. MedPaw is a soft chew with all six key joint actives, the main amounts per chew on the label and a 60-day money-back guarantee. For most dogs, we'd recommend MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews, especially if your dog is fussy about tablets or you can't find Superdog in stock.

Transparency note: this page is written by MedPaw, which makes a competing joint supplement. Superdog's details come from its label as published by UK retailers, because Vitabiotics' own Superdog page no longer exists. We've said clearly where Superdog comes out ahead. Everything was checked on 8 October 2026.

    Where Superdog falls short

    You can't see what's in a tablet

Superdog's label gives each active as a percentage and the vitamins per kilo, but not the weight of a tablet. So you can't work out how many milligrams of glucosamine or green-lipped mussel your dog gets. What the percentages do show is the balance: green-lipped mussel is 0.5% of the tablet, against 18% glucosamine hydrochloride. MedPaw prints the main amounts per chew, so you know what you're giving.

    Two key actives missing

Superdog has four of the six key joint actives. It has no hyaluronic acid and no Boswellia. Its omega-3 comes from linseed oil, at 1% of the tablet, which provides the plant omega-3 ALA rather than the EPA and DHA found in fish oil.

One dose for a wide range of dogs

The label gives one tablet a day to every dog from 5 to 21kg, so a 21kg dog gets the same as a 5kg dog. There's no loading phase, no guidance for dogs under 5kg or over 45kg, and it isn't suitable for puppies under 12 months.

    It's getting hard to find

Vitabiotics' Superdog page now redirects to its homepage, and a search of its shop for "superdog" found nothing. Superdrug says the product is "no longer available online". With almost no reviews either, it's hard to judge and hard to keep buying. See Superdog out of stock? for what we found.

Why Superdog customers switch to MedPaw

Superdog vs MedPaw on the issues that matter day to day

    The issue Superdog MedPaw
Giving it every day Chewable tablet Soft chew given from your hand like a treat
Breadth of formula Four of the six key actives All six key joint actives
Knowing the dose No amount per tablet Main amounts per chew on the label
Trying it without risk No guarantee we could find 60-day money-back guarantee, nothing to send back
Keeping it in stock Off Vitabiotics' site; patchy at retailers Order direct, or subscribe and pause or cancel any time

Our recommendation: if you're tired of hunting for Superdog, your dog would rather have a soft chew than a tablet, or you want hyaluronic acid and Boswellia with the main amounts on the label, choose MedPaw. Give it six to eight weeks, and if you're not happy, email bark@medpaw.co.uk within 60 days of delivery for a refund. Try MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews.

When Superdog might suit your dog instead

To be fair to Superdog, it can be the better choice in some cases:

    • Your dog needs a gluten-free product. Superdog is labelled gluten free. MedPaw contains gluten from brewer's yeast.
    • You want a broad vitamin and mineral mix in the same tablet. Superdog's listings describe 22 essential vitamins and minerals, and the label adds B vitamins, vitamin D3, iron and selenium. MedPaw adds only vitamins C and E and zinc.
    • Your dog already takes it happily, you can still buy it, and it's working. Then there's no need to change.

    Switching from Superdog to MedPaw

Swap rather than stack. Stop Superdog and start MedPaw the next day, with no gap. Don't give both: they share glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and green-lipped mussel, and Superdog's label says not to give more than the recommended intake. Follow the feeding guide on the tub, doubling the usual number of chews for the first three weeks. If your dog is diabetic or takes any medication, check with your vet first.

If nothing has worked so far

If your dog is still stiff or sore after a fair trial of any supplement, see your vet. They may suggest pain relief, weight loss or an omega-3 fish oil at a proper dose, which has the strongest evidence for dogs with arthritis. Read what you can safely give a dog for joint pain and the best fish oil for dogs' joints.

Is MedPaw better than Superdog Joints & Bones?

For most dogs, we think so. MedPaw is a soft chew with all six key joint actives, the main amounts per chew on the label and a 60-day money-back guarantee. Superdog is a tablet with four of the six, no published amounts per tablet and very few reviews, and it's no longer sold on Vitabiotics' own website.

What's the main difference between MedPaw and Superdog?

The formula and the format. Superdog is a chewable tablet with glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, green-lipped mussel, linseed oil, ginger and a vitamin and mineral mix. MedPaw is a soft chew with glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, green-lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid and Boswellia, plus vitamins C and E and zinc.

Does Superdog have a money-back guarantee?

We couldn't find one. It's sold through retailers, so returns depend on where you bought it. MedPaw has a 60-day money-back guarantee from delivery, for any reason, with nothing to send back.

Can I give MedPaw and Superdog together?

We don't recommend it. They share several actives, so swap rather than stack. Stop Superdog and start MedPaw the next day.

Is MedPaw suitable if my dog has a shellfish allergy?

No. MedPaw contains green-lipped mussel, a mollusc, and gluten from brewer's yeast. Superdog also contains green-lipped mussel and says not to give it to dogs with a fish or shellfish allergy. Ask your vet which supplement to use.

Can I switch from Superdog to MedPaw straight away?

Yes. Stop Superdog and start MedPaw the next day. There's no need for a gap, and you shouldn't give both. Check with your vet first if your dog takes any medication.
