Quick answer: the biggest problem with Superdog Joints & Bones by Vitabiotics is that it's getting hard to buy and hard to judge. Vitabiotics' own Superdog page now redirects to its homepage, Superdrug says it's no longer available online, and we found almost no reviews: none at Ocado or Superdrug, and three five-star eBay reviews from 2018 and 2019. It's a chewable tablet, the label gives percentages but no amount per tablet, green-lipped mussel makes up just 0.5% of the tablet, and there's no hyaluronic acid or Boswellia. If that sounds familiar, we'd recommend trying MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews instead: a soft chew dogs take like a treat, with all six key joint actives and the main amounts per chew on the label, a subscription you can pause or cancel any time, and a 60-day money-back guarantee with nothing to send back.

The most common Superdog Joints & Bones complaints and drawbacks
We looked for reviews of Superdog Joints & Bones at Ocado, Superdrug, Boots, eBay, trolley.co.uk and 121 Pharmacy, and on Vitabiotics' own site. We found three, all five stars, and no negative reviews. Amazon and Holland & Barrett didn't load for us. So rather than invent complaints, the table below sets out the drawbacks we could verify from the label and retailer listings.
Superdog Joints & Bones drawbacks (checked 8 October 2026)
| Drawback | What we found |
|---|---|
| Hard to buy | Gone from Vitabiotics' website; "no longer available online" at Superdrug; out of stock at 121 Pharmacy; the older 30-tablet pack is sold out on eBay |
| Almost no reviews | No reviews at Ocado or Superdrug; three five-star eBay reviews from 2018 and 2019 |
| No amounts per tablet | The label gives percentages and amounts per kilo, but not the tablet weight, so you can't work out what's in each tablet |
| Light on some actives | Green-lipped mussel 0.5%, MSM 2%; no hyaluronic acid or Boswellia; omega-3 from linseed oil (1%) |
| Broad dose bands | One tablet a day for anything from 5 to 21kg; no guidance under 5kg or over 45kg |
| Format | Chewable tablet, which some dogs refuse; the label says it can be broken up into food |
"No longer available online"
The link Vitabiotics used for the product, vitabiotics.com/superdog/joints-bones, now lands on the Vitabiotics homepage, and a search of its shop for "superdog" returned 0 results. Superdrug says: "We're sorry but this product is no longer available online." 121 Pharmacy shows "Sorry, out of stock." Ocado still listed it. We found no announcement from Vitabiotics, so we can't say it has been discontinued. See Superdog Joints & Bones out of stock? for the details.
A label you can't turn into a dose
Ocado's listing gives the composition as glucosamine hydrochloride 18%, calcium carbonate 9%, chondroitin sulphate 5%, MSM 2%, linseed oil 1% and green-lipped mussel 0.5%, plus vitamins and trace elements listed per kilo. Without the weight of a tablet, you can't tell how many milligrams your dog gets. What you can tell is the balance: there's 36 times more glucosamine than green-lipped mussel. Read Superdog's ingredients explained for the full breakdown.
Warnings worth knowing
The label says not to give it to a dog with a known fish or shellfish allergy, that owners of diabetic dogs should check with their vet first, and that it isn't suitable for puppies under 12 months. It's beef flavoured and labelled gluten free. We couldn't find a money-back guarantee for Superdog.
Why Superdog customers switch to MedPaw
MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews differ from Superdog on exactly the points above.
Superdog vs MedPaw on the things that matter to owners
| The complaint | Superdog Joints & Bones | MedPaw |
|---|---|---|
| Getting hold of it | Gone from Vitabiotics' site; patchy at retailers | Ordered online direct from us |
| Knowing what's in it | Percentages only; no amount per tablet | All six key joint actives, with the main amounts per chew on the label: MSM 185mg, glucosamine 170mg, chondroitin 70mg, green-lipped mussel 70mg, Boswellia 30mg, plus hyaluronic acid |
| Dog won't take tablets | Chewable tablet | Soft chicken and bacon chew, given from your hand like a treat |
| Hyaluronic acid and Boswellia | Neither listed | Both included |
| Getting your money back | No guarantee we could find | 60 days from delivery, for any reason; email us and keep the tub |
Our recommendation: if you can't find Superdog, your dog won't take tablets, or you want to see the main amounts in each dose, switch to MedPaw. Swap rather than stack: stop Superdog and start MedPaw the next day. Give it six to eight weeks, and if you're not happy, email us within 60 days and we'll refund you. Try MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews.
Superdog's rating, in context
Superdog Joints & Bones doesn't have a meaningful rating. Ocado shows 0 reviews for both its listings, Superdrug shows none, and the only reviews we could read were three five-star ratings on eBay for the older 30-tablet pack, dated May 2018 to June 2019 (checked 8 October 2026). One said: "These made a big difference to my 14 year old labrador/staffie X." (eBay buyer, 5 stars, May 2018). Retail listings repeat a "Recommended by 96% of dog owners" claim, but we couldn't find the survey behind it. Three reviews from several years ago can't tell you whether today's tub will help your dog.
To be fair to Superdog, the reviews that exist are all positive, it's made by a well-known UK vitamin company, and it combines glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and green-lipped mussel with a broad vitamin and mineral mix.
If nothing has worked so far
If your dog is still stiff or sore after a fair trial of any supplement, see your vet. They may suggest pain relief, weight loss or an omega-3 fish oil at a proper dose, which has the strongest evidence for dogs with arthritis. Read what you can safely give a dog for joint pain and the best fish oil for dogs' joints.
Our verdict
Superdog Joints & Bones is a tablet with almost no public reviews, no amounts per tablet, little green-lipped mussel and no hyaluronic acid or Boswellia, and it has disappeared from Vitabiotics' own shop. If you want a chew with all six key joint actives and a guarantee, MedPaw is the alternative we'd recommend. For more on the actives Superdog leaves out, read our guides to hyaluronic acid for dogs, Boswellia for dogs and green-lipped mussel for dogs.
More on Superdog: MedPaw vs Superdog, what's in Superdog Joints & Bones and Superdog out of stock?
What are the most common complaints about Superdog Joints & Bones?
We found no negative reviews, because there are hardly any reviews at all. The drawbacks we could verify are that it's hard to buy (it's gone from Vitabiotics' site and Superdrug no longer sells it online), there are no amounts per tablet on the label, it has little green-lipped mussel and no hyaluronic acid or Boswellia, and it's a tablet.
Is Superdog Joints & Bones any good?
There isn't enough review evidence to say. We found three five-star eBay reviews from 2018 and 2019 and none at Ocado or Superdrug. If you want a soft chew with all six key joint actives and a 60-day money-back guarantee, MedPaw is the alternative we'd recommend.
Is Superdog the same as Vitavet Superdog?
Yes, as far as we can tell. The older 30-tablet box was sold as Vitavet Superdog Joint & Bones and the current 60-tablet tub as Superdog Joints & Bones. Ocado shows the same ingredient list for both.
Does Superdog Joints & Bones contain fish or shellfish?
It contains green-lipped mussel, and the label says not to give it to a dog with a known fish or shellfish allergy. MedPaw also contains green-lipped mussel (a mollusc) and gluten from brewer's yeast, so it isn't suitable for a shellfish allergy either.
What's the best alternative to Superdog Joints & Bones?
If you can't find it, your dog won't take tablets, or you want all six key joint actives with the main amounts on the label, we'd recommend MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews. Swap rather than stack, and give it six to eight weeks.
Can I switch from Superdog to MedPaw straight away?
Yes. Stop Superdog and start MedPaw the next day. There's no need for a gap, and you shouldn't give both. Check with your vet first if your dog takes any medication.
