Quick answer: each Seraquin Joint 2g tablet contains 500mg glucosamine HCl, 380mg chondroitin sulphate and 50mg turmeric, in a base of inactivated yeast, maltodextrine, pork liver flavour, hydrolysed chicken protein and salt. That's two of the six key joint actives. There's no MSM, green-lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid, Boswellia or omega-3, and the curcumin content of the turmeric isn't published. If you want a broader formula, we'd recommend MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews instead: all six key joint actives in a soft chew, with the main amounts per chew on the label.
Transparency note: this page is written by MedPaw, which makes a competing joint supplement. Seraquin's ingredients come from its pack information as published by UK retailers, because Seraquin's own website blocked our access. Everything was checked on 8 October 2026.

Full composition and additives
The current pack lists, in order: glucosamine HCl, sodium chondroitin sulphate, inactivated yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), maltodextrine, pork liver flavour, turmeric, hydrolysed chicken protein and sodium chloride (zooplus, PDSA Pet Store). The listed additive is colloidal silica, an anti-caking agent.
Analytical constituents: crude protein 27.5%, crude ash 11.5%, crude oils and fats 1.7%, crude fibres 0.5% (Ocado). It's made in Germany by Boehringer Ingelheim.
Labels have changed over time. VetUK still shows an older list with saccharose, glucose, maize protein and "standardised turmeric extract", with the same amounts of the three actives.
Allergens
Seraquin doesn't publish an allergen statement. The current list includes chicken (hydrolysed chicken protein), pork (pork liver flavour) and yeast. It doesn't list fish, krill, mussel or egg. The source of the glucosamine isn't stated, so if your dog has a shellfish allergy, ask your vet. For more, see Seraquin side effects.
What the evidence says about each active
A 2022 meta-analysis of 72 trials by Barbeau-Grégoire et al. (International Journal of Molecular Sciences) looked at supplements for arthritis pain in dogs and cats:
- Glucosamine and chondroitin: the review found "a very marked non-effect" on pain and said they should no longer be recommended for pain management. That applies to every product built on them, MedPaw's glucosamine and chondroitin included. They're widely used to support cartilage, but don't expect them to relieve pain.
- Turmeric (curcumin): five studies with mixed results: one negative, two unclear and two positive. Without the curcumin content on the pack, it's hard to know how Seraquin's 50mg of turmeric compares.
- Omega-3: the strongest evidence of any supplement for arthritis pain. Seraquin contains none.
- MSM, Boswellia and hyaluronic acid: too few studies to judge on their own. Seraquin has none of them.
What's missing compared with MedPaw
Seraquin's daily glucosamine and chondroitin are higher than MedPaw's: at 30kg, 1.5 tablets give 750mg glucosamine and 570mg chondroitin, against 340 to 510mg and 140 to 210mg from 2 to 3 MedPaw chews. But that's most of the formula. MedPaw adds four actives Seraquin doesn't have, plus vitamins and zinc. MedPaw has no turmeric.
Why Seraquin customers switch to MedPaw

Our recommendation: if you've read Seraquin's label and want more than glucosamine and chondroitin, choose MedPaw, unless your dog has a shellfish or gluten allergy. Swap rather than stack, give it six to eight weeks, and if you're not happy, email bark@medpaw.co.uk within 60 days of delivery for a refund. Try MedPaw Hip & Joint Chews.
If nothing has worked so far
If your dog is still stiff or sore after a fair trial of any supplement, see your vet. They may suggest pain relief, weight loss or an omega-3 fish oil at a proper dose, which has the strongest evidence for dogs with arthritis. What is in Seraquin?
Each 2g tablet contains 500mg glucosamine HCl, 380mg sodium chondroitin sulphate and 50mg turmeric, with inactivated yeast, maltodextrine, pork liver flavour, hydrolysed chicken protein and salt. The additive is colloidal silica.
Does Seraquin contain green-lipped mussel or fish oil?
No. Seraquin doesn't list green-lipped mussel, fish oil or any other omega-3 source. MedPaw contains green-lipped mussel.
How much curcumin is in Seraquin?
It isn't published. The pack lists 50mg turmeric per 2g tablet but doesn't say how much of that is curcumin.
Does Seraquin contain chicken?
Yes, hydrolysed chicken protein, plus pork liver flavour. Check with your vet if your dog has a food allergy.
Is Seraquin or MedPaw stronger?
Seraquin has more glucosamine and chondroitin per day. MedPaw has a broader formula, with all six key joint actives, including MSM, green-lipped mussel, hyaluronic acid and Boswellia, which Seraquin doesn't contain.
Can I switch from Seraquin to MedPaw straight away?
Yes. Stop Seraquin and start MedPaw the next day. There's no need for a gap, and you shouldn't give both. Check with your vet first if your dog takes any medication.
